Paula's High School friend, Delores, called her Paula Pickles because Paula made her giggle. Before very long everyone was calling her Paula Pickles.
Delores and Paula remained friends after High School and saw each other often because they lived, worked and rasied their children in the same town where they had grown up.
One Friday, on Delores's lunch hour she went home to get meat out of the freezer. Her freshman son was coming home from college. Delores did not return to work that day, which was very odd. It was just so out of character for her. Phone calls to her home were not answered. Tragically, it was discovered that she in fact had been murdered. The case remains unsolved to this day.
Paula treasured her friendship with Delores very much.
Paula named her stores in order to preserve her loving memory.
Paula's gateway to scrapbooking was a project for her son's graduation. Her son and her whole family responded to the creativity with such praise for the artwork she displayed, she felt this would be a rewarding pastime to pursue. Soon, Paula realized her love for this hobby and previous entrepreneurial experience made her believe this could be the business opportunity she had been looking for. Her creative talents have brought her many complements and much acclaim. She has offered tutorials and work sessions through her stores that were not only well received but also requested for private parties.
While living in Texas, Paula opened her first store with great success. With life's turns, she returned to Michigan and opened a store in downtown Vernon. While she was greeted with success, her sister Wendy's cancer was getting worse. Paula was torn between her business pursuit and taking care of her sister. Paula's devotion to family had to take precedence.
Paula Pickles closed her Vernon Michigan store in November of 2007.
